This is something a little different from the norm but I’m hoping at least a couple of fellow bloggers/readers/tweeters will come on board with this project.
Seachtain na Gaeilge is coming up from 4-17 March 2013. Traditionally it falls around St Patrick’s Day. The aim of the official
week that has morphed into a fortnight is to raise awareness of the Irish language and encourage people to speak it a little bit more.
I mention it every now and again on the blog, and I also slip in the odd word on my podcasts here and there. We are a household that speaks both languages, increasingly so since the 4 year old started Irish language Montessori.
For the most part though I blog and use social media in English as that’s what the majority of my readers understand.
However for 1 day I’m going to change the language and blog “as Gaeilge”. I might even podcast! Now I realise that other bloggers might not be as comfortable to write a whole post in Irish, or might not even have any Irish to use at all.
If you’re not comfortable to blog in Irish, would you consider blogging about the meaning of an Irish word that you’ve come across? For example, Brenda from Mod Erin Design is going to blog about the word “CLANN” which means family.
If you’re a photographer would you consider taking a photograph that matches an Irish word that has special meaning to you?
If you’re a Twitter user maybe you might like to tweet a word or an image using the hashtag #snagblog to highlight the project.
What do you say?
