We have a unanimous winner of the first week’s challenge. The recipe for the second week has been set and we also have a new judge for the Great Irish Bake Off Week 2.
This is a blog/tweet hop but is not restricted to bloggers or tweeters. In order to enter you must either tweet me ( @wholesomeIE ) using the hastag #GIrishBO your picture of the recipe of the week or email me your photo. If you’re a blogger, please also send me details of your blog so that I can link to your website and give you full credit.
Week 2 Challenge
Next week’s challenge is an Eight Strand Plaited Loaf. Click on the name to be directed to the BBC Food website for the exact recipe. As we have a bread recipe to follow, can you please forward 3 pictures for the judges to evaluate.
- An overhead shot so that they can see the plaiting.
- A shot of the underneath of the bread (no hiding sticky bottoms thank you very much).
- A cross section of the slice for bake quality.
As you bake in the week ahead use the hashtag for advice and any questions. It was very useful to everyone who attempted the Rum Baba from last week’s challenge. For example we all discovered that the 1 hour proving time recommended needed to be doubled!
Judges
Colette from Cakes, Bakes and Other Bits
MaggieG from Food Born And Bred
Winner Week 1
The winner is Karen O’Connell of Follow The FoodLink Blog with this gorgeous Rum Baba. Well done Karen it was a unanimous vote by the judges!
Other Entries
In no particular order, the other entries were:
Wholesome Ireland (that’s me):
Marie Walsh of Yummeelicious Food Blog and you can see how she got on with her Rum Baba baking endeavours here.
The Baking Bachelor who is very new to blogging but not new to baking, obviously!
Best of luck with the Week 2 challenge everyone. It’s just a bit of fun. Just to let you all know that there are far more people following your baking efforts than are entering as here have been hundreds of pageviews to date. Hopefully we are inspiring people to try more challenging bakes and if we can do it anyone can!
