Shopping Tips 1st December 2014

I’ve been providing shopping tips and updates on my Facebook page for over a month now. They’ve become a little long to pop into just 1 update on the page so I’m moving them over to the blog. From today, every Monday, you’ll find a weekly roundup of shopping deals available in Ireland.  Read on below if you’re interested and don’t forget to share this update with anybody you might think would find it helpful.

Aldi

I’m sounding an alarm klaxon here. The ski gear is in stock from Thursday.  This includes women’s, men’s and children’s items. Okay so I won’t be going ski-ing this year but I would consider picking up long-johns, thermal underwear and pocket warmers for the cold weather. They’re all great value and quality. Also worth checking out are the shoe grips for icy weather at €4.99 a pair.

The Super-Six Veg are Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrot And Parsnip Tray, Green Apples, Rocha Pears and Tomatoes. The Super-Six meat deals are the same as last week until Wednesday which means you have a few days left to pick up 8 Irish chicken fillet portions for just €6. Yes, crazy price indeed.

Dunnes Stores

Their in-store deals end today and they don’t have their new deals available. I’ll update this supermarket in the post next week.

Lidl

Oh I’ve just spotted they have a new Advent Calendar on their website. Today I bagged a free mince-pie voucher. I’ll definitely be visiting their site again tomorrow to see what’s on offer. Very clever Lidl! It’s all about the tools in their special buys today, but Thursday looks more interesting with a play kitchen for only €34.99 – I’ve seen these at far more expensive prices so you could pick up a bargain there.

The special offers on meat this week include a bacon wrapped loin of ham (this is lovely and smokey, I cooked it recently) and rib eye steaks with peppercorn butter. The veg on offer this week are turnips, carrots, cucumber and lemons.

SuperValu

I’m a huge fan of their fruit and vegetable offers. You can mix and match onions, york cabbage, loose peppers, and a carrot/parsnip/sweet potato tray on a 2-for-€1 deal. Then on the 2-for-€2 deal you can pick up grapefruit net, kids fruit pouch, green apples bag and a net of avocados.

Irish turkeys are half price in SuperValu with 600 reward card points so you can save a fortune there by ordering in advance. They also have a half price fish and meat sale. If you’ve space in the freezer and a little extra money now there’s no harm in stocking up.

Also on offer in store is 15% off the price of iTunes gift cards. Now that’s a bargain!

Tesco

On offer in the fruit and veg section this week are leeks, cabbage and white potatoes. Fresh cranberries are half price – not bad if you’re going to make your sauce or chutney in advance of Christmas Day.

I thought it was just a “Black Friday” deal but purchasing 3 x 1 litres of spirits will attract a 25% discount at the till for the next 12 days or so. It sounds like a lot of alcohol to me, but somebody might find that helpful! There’s also 25% off everything in their clothing department until midnight tonight.

If you have a deal or a discount you think would be worth sharing here then drop me an email (wholesomecook-at-gmail-dot-com) to be added to the list for consideration. Note, this does not guarantee you get included! These are my own personal choices and I’m not sponsored to provide this information. Some supermarkets provide me with the information in advance and others I have to trawl the internet for.
