I didn’t manage to make the Irish Craft Fair in the RDS this year, but never fear my mother went on my behalf instead. She arrived home with 2 parcels for me. One of which contained a book from the self-published author and artist, Dolores Keaveney. I hadn’t asked Mam to get anything for me at the fair but she spotted this very talented lady’s stall from afar and got chatting.
The book she brought home is called “Beelicious, Recipes with Honey” (featured photograph on this blogpost) and it is simply charming. This is a great children’s cookery book that is simply laid out and great to read. Every page is filled with bright illustrations, the handwritten recipes by the Author’s grand-daughter add to the atmosphere and the book is peppered with little honey bee facts.
Mam was so enamoured with the book, she also bought (for herself) a copy of “If I were a bee” and wow, what a great children’s book. My 5 year old loves this story as the bee flits through the flowers. I’m under strict instructions to return it to Mam without a crease!
When I mailed Dolores to ask her permission to reproduce some photos of her work here, she told me that Shannonbridge Pottery have manufactured a range with her distinctive poppyfield motif. Oh wow, how gorgeous, I’m in love with it!
You’ll find Dolores’ (English and Irish language) books and prints for sale on her website and in all good bookstores nationwide. If you’re interested in a very special Irish gift for a child or adult for Christmas then I think these would be just the job.
Disclosure: I think I should send Mam to craft shows on my behalf again in future. There’s another blogpost about a great Irish product to come in the next few days!
Please bear with me over the next few weeks as I’ve loads of news and blogposts to get through before the end of the year!
