Netflix Countdown To The Oscars
There is a Netflix countdown to The Oscars over on their media streaming service. They provided me with a list of all the Oscar nominated movies and productions they have available, including their own documentary “The Square”. I’ve gone through the list they sent and selected a few of my favourites in case you’re interested!
The Help (2011)
In 1960s Jackson, Miss., aspiring writer Eugenia Phelan crosses taboo racial lines by conversing with Aibileen Clark about her life as a housekeeper, and their ensuing friendship upsets the fragile dynamic between the haves and the have-nots.
I loved this book. LOVED it. The film was heartwarming, easy watching but of course the book was better. I always say that!
The Usual Suspects (1995)
When five unacquainted crooks are hauled into a police station to appear in a criminal line-up, they decide to pull off a heist together. The plan gets complicated, however, when they intermix with an underworld kingpin named Keyser Söze. Stars Kevin Spacey, do we need an excuse to watch Kevin Spacey?
Fargo (1996)
Police chief Marge Gunderson — a serious sleuth who’s sharper than her folksy accent suggests — is hot on the trail of a Minneapolis car dealer conspiring with two kidnappers to snatch his wife so he can pocket part of the hefty ransom.
Rain Man (1988)
Fast-talking yuppie Charlie Babbitt is forced to slow down when he embarks on a life-changing cross-country odyssey with the brother he never knew he had, an autistic savant named Raymond who’s spent most of his life in an institution.
Beautiful film.
Forest Gump (1994)
Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), a simpleminded man, finds himself in the middle of nearly every major event of the 1960s and ’70s. Along the way, he makes friends, changes lives and yearns for his childhood sweetheart, Jenny (Robin Wright).
Makes me cry everytime.
The Godfather (1972)
When organized-crime family patriarch Vito Corleone barely survives an attempt on his life, his youngest son steps in to take care of the would-be killers, launching a campaign of bloody revenge in this Oscar-winning epic Stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
As U.S. troops storm the beaches of Normandy, three brothers lie dead on the battlefield, with a fourth trapped behind enemy lines. Ranger Capt. John Miller and seven of his men are ordered to penetrate German-held territory and bring the man home.
